Very often, when you are busy setting up your new abode you spend a major amount of time searching for your important items such as spare car keys, your credit statement or your photo id. In the hurry to open the boxes you may end up damaging many of your belongings and create a mess all around. Therefore, plan your pack by following the below tips to avoid losing or damaging your belongings:
Buy all packaging material up front: First thing when you plan your pack is that you must visually inspect every room and estimate the number of packing boxes you would need. Go ahead and buy all the boxes at one go at this will help you in saving time, money and energy.
Keep all packing material at one place: Keep all your packaging supplies in a single room. Collect scissors, boxes, tape, bubble wrap, paper, markers and anything else that may be required for packing and put them on one desk.
Create a list: Use pen and paper to create itemized list of belongings you are placing in each box. This way, it will be easy for you to know where have you kept your passport and other documents even when you are moving.
Try to place similar items together: For example, in box #6 place all your kitchen utensils so that unpacking becomes easy when you reach new home. When you plan your pack, keep the heaviest unbreakable item at the bottom and arrange delicate items at the top. If you are packing fragile items in a single box, then do not forget to place a "fragile" sign on the box.
Other things to keep in mind: Ensure that you fill the box completely. Roll up newspaper and place it in empty spaces so that there is no space for the objects to move that will prevent breakage. Do not put various heavy belongings in the same package as it may not only hurt you while lifting the box but also will damage your items.
You may be very methodical but there will always be some extra items. Therefore, always keep extra boxes handy to place these stray items when you plan your pack. Try carrying your valuables yourself. Follow these tips and you will pack and unpack your home in no time.
