Storage
Whether you are making a temporary shift or you are moving into a smaller apartment, you will need excellent storage facilities for safekeeping of your belongings that you are unable to carry. You may hear people advising you to dispose of all the extra items but you might still like to retain some of your personal belongings and furniture. Now, every city boasts of a good storage facility where you can keep your belongings securely for as long as you want. Before selecting a self-storage unit, you must keep following factors in mind:
Location: The new storage unit should be closer to your new home so that it saves your effort, gas and time. It should be easily accessible and located in a secure area.
Flexible leasing term: The storage unit that you select should offer flexible leasing option. You may be able to hire the unit on weekly or monthly basis if you are storing your belongings for short time. You should also be able to hire the space for longer time if you are intending to use it for couple of years.
Adequate space: The storage area should be spacious enough to keep all your belongings and then have some additional space to move around easily. Check whether the storage unit that you are planning to rent is clean, free from pests and has climate control so that your goods are not spoiled.
Access: Storage unit should have a boundary wall with its main entrance being manned by a guard. The guard should allow restricted entry to the storage facility only to people that own a storage space. In addition, you should ensure that you could visit this storage area 24x7 as per your convenience.
Security: Besides the guard at the main entrance, the storage area should be well lit with security cameras installed in every unit. You must check that the storage unit has a fire alarm and smoke detectors. Every corridor should have a fire extinguisher and an emergency telephone. A highly secure storage area may not come cheap but is well worth the money spent.
Last but not the least; ensure that the belongings you are placing in storage unit are adequately insured. If the items that you place in storage unit is not covered by your home insurance than take the insurance that storage provider offers. Keep above factors in mind and store your goods securely.
